You’re More Multi-Hyphenate Than You Think

Hi Reader,

Before we go any further on this journey together, it’s time we redefine something important.

Affirmation

Say it with me:

I’m not confused when I switch hairstyles. I’m not confused about being multi-hyphenate either.

Story Time

What's a Multi-Hyphenate Anyway?

Great question, and one that I'm asked a lot in person.

Since it happened again recently, I figured it's time for a reset.

Because if you’re still wondering whether you “qualify” as a multi-hyphenate, let me say this clearly:

You do.

Being multi-hyphenate simply means you are multi-talented.

You do different things.

Maybe you coach, create content, manage projects, lead teams, and mentor others.

And you know something?

In a corporate environment? Those would be separate job titles.

Example:

  • Social Media Manager
  • Professional Development Trainer
  • Project Coordinator

But you?

You’re doing multiple things, often without the neat labels.

That’s not confusion. That’s depth.

Or another way of seeing it...That’s not chaos. That’s range.

Personal Brand Reflection

All that said...

Please own it
And stop shrinking your range.

Sometimes “multi-hyphenate” feels intimidating—like it’s only for celebrities who sing, dance, launch fashion lines, and have perfume deals.

But that’s not the only way this looks.

Think about it:

  • Lawyers don’t just specialize in one area. Many handle divorce law, estate planning, adoption, guardianship, and more.
  • A designer might build websites, create brand strategy, and run workshops.
  • A writer might freelance, coach others, and run a community.

Multi-hyphenate isn't about doing wildly unrelated things.

It’s about recognizing and owning the different dimensions of your gifts—even within a single field.

You’re not “scattered” because you have variety.

You’re not “unfocused” because, truth is, you can flow between different strengths.

You are multi-hyphenate because you’re fully using the tools you’ve been given.

You don’t have to pick one. You just have to own all of them.

So reflect on this...

Where have you been downplaying your multi-hyphenate nature because it felt like “too much” or "too out of reach?"

See you in two Tuesdays,

Tamara Sykes
