Hi Reader This one’s for the versions of us we’ve outgrown—without shame, without regret. Just a reminder of what growth really looks like.
AffirmationSay it with me: I can honor who I was and still embrace who I’m becoming. Story TimeThe Nails Weren’t the ProblemA few years ago, during my regular nail salon trip, I asked for long, stiletto-shaped nails—the kind I used to love in my 20s. They looked amazing. But within a couple of days, I was fumbling through everyday tasks. Typing was hard. I couldn't function the way I needed to. And within a week, I was back in the chair asking them to file them down. Not because I didn’t love the look or that version of me. But because I'd changed; my life had changed. I’ve been thinking about that moment a lot lately. How we sometimes reach for old versions of ourselves out of comfort, nostalgia, or a need to prove we “still got it.” But when I had those nails on, it felt like I was cosplaying a past self. Not because she wasn’t real, but because I’m not her anymore. I loved who she was—but I didn’t need to be her to feel powerful now. Personal Brand ReflectionThis wasn’t about the nails. It's about acknowledging growth without needing to grieve it. The truth is, despite how you show up now:
The thing about personal branding that no one tells you? It’s not just about building something new—it’s about being honest with yourself about who you are now. You’ll outgrow things: But that doesn’t mean you’ve lost yourself. It means you’ve evolved—and you get to honor that evolution. You don’t need to cling to past versions of your identity to stay consistent. Your brand, just like you, is allowed to shift, soften, sharpen, and grow. So I’ll ask you what I asked myself: What’s something you’ve outgrown, not because you don’t love it, but because it doesn’t fit your life anymore? Can you release it without guilt? Can you trust that you’re still “you”—just in a different season? Because you are. And that version of you now? She’s just as powerful. You're STILL THAT GIRL. See you in two Tuesdays, Tamara Sykes |
